The second major derivative based on bitcoin is launching to trade on the CME.

The CME Group, one of  the US"s largest exchanges of options and options contracts ,started bitcoin options contracts for trading at 6 p.m. EST Sunday. The initial price for bitcoin futures contractss was $20,650, and the digital currency was trading at $20,135 at 6:08 p.m. EST.

The electronic currency has increased in popularity and profit this year even while drawing concerns relating to its volatility.

The CME bitcoin futures and options, like the bitcoin futures that now trade on the Chicago Board Options Exchange, do not contain tangible bitcoin. They will measure an index of bitcoin price. Each contract will be for 5 bitcoin.

Perhaps the most impactful aspect of the launch of bitcoin futures contracts on the CME and CBOE is that it has opened bitcoin up to the entire institutional investment community. Rival Cboe Global Markets had hosted $30m in bitcoin futures trading over the same time. According to the Cboe"s official Twitter account, Bitcoin Futures traded at three times their average daily volume.
